‘Tis the season to slack off and eat that extra slice of pie! As delicious as the leftover Holiday food may be, it’s important to remember that you’re not a bear and you’re not in hibernation! Although many Americans tend to let their workout routines go this time of year, it’s important to keep your body in tiptop shape or at least maintain a certain fitness level all year round.

Yes, it’s cold out and the biking trails are frozen over, but that doesn’t mean you don’t have to workout. Winter is just a season, not an excuse to pig out. There are many ways to still stay fit and healthy in below freezing temperatures. Of course, there’s the warm sheltered gym where you can exercise to your heart’s desire without even knowing the weather outside. For those of us who do not have a gym membership, there are copious amounts of free fitness YouTube videos online that can help you train any part of your body you want. Some of you may also have a treadmill or other equipment in the house you can use to keep up your warm weather body. Be creative and think outside the box. Look online for at-home workout tips, there are plenty of household items right under your nose that you can use to stay fit as well.

Just because it’s cold doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy the outdoors. Skiing, snowboarding and other winter sports are also excellent workouts. Being on the slopes all day really gets your heart pumping and especially works your legs. Remember,  if you do let yourself go this winter, it will only be that much harder to get your beach body back in the spring. Think outside the weather and work it out!
