There are a few causes of wrist pain. Some of those causes include:

  • Carpal tunnel syndrome- occurs when the median nerve in your hand becomes pinched. It causes the sensation in the thumb, index finger, middle finger, and part of the ring finger. Carpal tunnel can also cause numbness, weakness, and tingling on the side of your hand.
  • Injury- Falling is also a common cause of wrist injury. Swelling, bruising, or disfigured joints can also cause wrist pain. These can be a sign of a fracture, tendonitis, tendon, or ligament tear.
  • Gout- A type of inflammatory arthritis caused by a buildup of uric acid.

Wrist Pain Exercises

Luckily, there are many wrist exercises out there to help alleviate or prevent pain. Some of those exercises are:

  • Arm extensions- Extend your arm, your palm facing the ceiling. With the other hand, gently press your fingers toward the floor, holding it for 10-30 seconds.
  • Clenched fists- Sit and place open hands with your palms facing up on your thighs. Then close your hands into a fist slowly. Leaving your arms still, only move your fists towards your body, holding them for 10 seconds. Bend your wrists back toward your thighs and open your hands. You can do this ten times.
  • Tennis ball squeeze- You can strengthen your wrists by squeezing a tennis ball for 5-10 seconds.
