What is Physical Therapy?

Physical therapy is the rehabilitation and treatment of injuries, diseases, and other conditions through physical engagement rather than surgical and/or drug treatment. This medical practice is carried out with the use of massage therapy, weight training, and other physical activities that will overtime heal any ailments that you may be enduring. Physical therapy is widely effective due to the nature of one-on-one attention between the patient and the physical therapist. Our expert Physical Therapy on Main Street, Buffalo offers hands-on care to our patients in need as we help to relieve their discomfort.

What is a Physical Therapist?

The main role of a physical therapist is promoting quality of life by planning a custom regimen for their patient’s specific needs, without the use of drugs or surgery. They also focus on educating their patients with ways to prevent future injuries and ensure long-term physical health. At our physical therapy Williamsville NY, our staff’s attention to detail and compassion for our patients is what keeps them coming back.

A Few of our Services From Physical Therapy on Main Street, Buffalo

Staying Active This Summer While Saving Your Joints

The summer months are certainly not the time to be filled and bogged down by joint pain. If you’re looking to stay active while also keeping your joints protected, our team at Advance Physical Therapy on Main Street, Buffalo is here for you. Our team has the knowledge you need to keep moving without complication, and we’d like to share it with you.

Always Warm-Up

No matter the season, taking the time to warm-up before physical activity is the first step in remaining pain and injury-free. Trying to move around with stiff joints is the perfect way to sustain an injury and experience pain. To prevent this from happening, we recommend incorporating the below into a brief 10 minute warm-up period:

  • Static stretches at the end of your workout
  • Dynamic stretches at the beginning of your workout.
  • A quick jog or brisk walk.

Stay Hydrated

Keeping up with your liquid intake needs to be a top priority in the summer months. Due to the warmer weather, your body will become dehydrated faster than it would in other months. Becoming dehydrated can lead to bouts of dizziness and even spells of fainting, which can damage your joints. Not only will staying hydrated help prevent this, but it also works to keep your joints lubricated so they can function without pain.

Try Low Impact Exercises

Activities like going for a run are great for your health in some aspects. However, the constant pounding against the ground can be detrimental to your joints. The same can be said for contact sports like lacrosse. Finding a balance between staying active without placing a burden on your joint is imperative to remaining pain-free this summer. Some activities you can try include:

  • Swimming
  • Biking
  • Kayaking
  • Rowing
  • Yoga
